High Speed Wireless Router

Cox High Speed....wireless router slowing down my connection speed?

I have Cox highspeed..which is a communications company in most of the west/midwest....anyways is my netgear wireless router slowing it down ..its a 54 mbps...would it be better to go to a belkin 108 mbps?

  1. first of all all wireless routers will slow down the original connection speed, there is nothing you can do about that. If you get a router with more mbp's then yes your connection speed will increase and run faster.
  2. your high speed connection is probably 12mbps second (that's what I have [supposed to be 6mbs]) the more you distribute that the slower it will be at the end of the line wireless or wired router no difference. The thing with wireless is that if it's not password protected then anybody with a wireless connection (neighbor a business across the street somebody sitting their car in front of your house) can tap into your connection and get online off of your penny. Slowing down your connection in the process. Look into putting on a password, WAP Key, I'd tell you how but I'm wired.
