High Speed Wireless Router

Is there any way to increase the range of my Netgear wireless card.?

I own a Netgear usb wireless adapter. I am trying to get a stronger connection to the router from my room. I live in a dorm and own a desktop computer. Any way i could increase my range of my card. It a very expensive usb wireless. It was the one with the 10x range. I have no control over the router. It is managed by the dorm.

  1. You may be able to extend the distance that your router broadcast's through the router's configuration.
  2. There is tips you can improve your wireless: Call your IT where you live dorm to upgrade better router signal. If possible, use Ethernet line connect to your computer desktop. This is strongest connection and better than wireless. Add a wireless repeater to boost signal To quiet the noise, avoid wireless electronics that use the 2.4GHz frequency. Instead, look for cordless phones that use the 5.8GHz or 900MHz frequencies. Router manufacturers regularly make free improvements to their routers. Sometimes, these improvements increase performance. To get the latest firmware updates for your router, visit your router manufacturer's Web site. While a Linksys router will work with a D-Link network adapter, you often get better performance if you pick a router and network adapter from the same vendor. Upgrade 802.11b devices to 802.11g or 802.11n: N wireless is longest and powerful signal. Upgrade to a hi-gain antenna that focuses the wireless signals only one direction.
