High Speed Wireless Router

My laptop can't get a signal from my wireless netgear router. How to fix?

I have an HP pavillion laptop and it cannot connnect to my wireless netgear router. I try to connect and it goes on forever saying "Waiting for wireless connection to be ready" how to fix? also, my sister has a macbook and hers works fine

1. Log into the wireless router and check the DHCP settings. Also, make sure that the wireless connection is correct with what it says on your computer (e.g. - WPA, WPA2, WEP)
