High Speed Wireless Router

What is the effective range of a wireless broadband router like linksys?

I want to install a wireless router in my two storey home. However, I dont have an idea which part of the house shall i install the router. If I install the router in the level of the second floor, Will I still receive signal when I'm in the ground floor? my house is concrete. can the signal pass through two concrete walls? i'm thinking of buying linksys wrt54g broadband wireless router.

  1. install it as centrally as possible. Once you buy it, move it around and find what gives you the best possible signal. You may also concider a router with RangeBooster/MIMO, it helps signal a whole bunch.
  2. Is your house brick inside ? What kind of router are you looking at B, G, N, etc. B . I would recommend picking up a G router , N is still buggy and overkill probably. As long as your house doesn't have really thick brick walls then you should receive signal on the ground floor perfectly.
  3. yes u should do, i have wireless and my router is on the ground floor and my desktop is a floor above, my home is made of concrete and i still get a signal of 4/5 that's super so ya u should be able 2
  4. its around 60 - 80 Meter in closed area, like building which have walls between two wirless devices, and 80 - 110 in open area, if you are inside a big open area like stadium
  5. 1. The range of linksys routers is usually around 150 feet for wireless-g 2.I have a router on the ground floor of my home and I can get internet acess in my basement and on the floor above. You see when it says the range is up to 150 feet that means 150 feet in everydirection.
