- router's can be used to connect more than one computer..but i dont think they manufacture a wireless modem alone..usually comes with a router as well.
- The difference between modem and router is this... Well there are many differences, but the ones you need to know are... A modem is used to capture the signal from either DSL or CABLE high speed internet, and translate it to the signal that your computer can understand so that you can use internet... YOU CANNOT BUY A ROUTER and use it to get HIGH SPEED INTERNET... YOU HAVE TO HAVE a modem to get DSL or CABLE internet. The modem is used for internet providers. Most DSL and CABLE companies will send you one when you get DSL OR CABLE, but you can also buy them so that you dont have to pay the NORMAL lease or fine they charge you for giving you one. SO BUY your own modem and you can then purchase HIGH SPEED INTERNET... ROUTERs, are used along with a MODEM, the modem plugs usually into your telephone line for dsl, or into your coxial cable line for Cable, the modem captures the internet and send it to a computer that plugged into the modem. IF YOU HAVE a router, you can plug the router into the MODEM, and then the MODEM sends the internet to the ROUTER and the router usually ROUTES information to more than 1 computer.... In Lamens terms, you need MODEM to have High speed net. You need ROUTER if you have more than 1 computer in your house that you want connected to that internet. Most routers allow 4 computers to be connected... via the physical CABLE you run to it... WIreless ROUTERS can service over 100 computers at once... These days though, they are making MODEM/ROUTER boxes in all in one. So attempt to buy that if you need it.
- the modem is for one computer. the router is to hook up another computer with you
